## The Hook

Coder gives humans and agents durable remote development environments that survive the laptop, session, and next prompt.

## What's Good

AGPL-3.0 OSS self-host (coder/coder). Templates provision repeatable remote workspaces with persistent state, IDE/SSH access, and the kind of durable environment an agent can return to instead of rebuilding an ephemeral sandbox every run. Product and hosted options live at coder.com.

## The Catch

Vs E2B and Daytona (ephemeral agent sandboxes): Coder is a durable workspace/control plane, not a disposable per-task sandbox. The free path is OSS self-host; Premium and Enterprise are paid product tiers. You still own cluster, identity, persistence, and upgrade operations on the OSS path.

## Verdict

AGPL-3.0 durable remote workspaces for people and agents. Self-host is the free path; Premium/Enterprise are paid.
