## The Hook

cmux is a Swift/AppKit terminal built on libghostty for people running many Claude Code and Codex sessions at once: panes get a blue ring and tabs light up when an agent needs you, and a vertical sidebar shows each workspace’s git branch, linked PR, ports, and latest notification.

## What's Good

Free, GPL-3.0-or-later for the macOS app, CLI, and TUI (manaflow-ai/cmux). Release v0.65.0 (2026-10-05); DMG with Sparkle auto-update or `brew install --cask cmux`. Reads your existing Ghostty config for themes and fonts. In-app browser with a scriptable API ported from agent-browser, `cmux ssh` remote workspaces, `cmux claude-teams` for Claude Code teammate mode as native splits, and a CLI plus socket API to create workspaces, split panes, and send keystrokes. ★~28k.

## The Catch

macOS only. The license is split: the app is GPL, but the server parts (web/ and several workers/ directories) are Business Source License 1.1 and need a commercial license from Manaflow for production use, including self-hosting. Browser import can pull cookies and sessions from 20+ browsers into its panes — convenient, and a lot of trust to hand a terminal. Over 3,000 open issues and pull requests on a fast-moving repo. Vs ghostty (the emulator it builds on) and thurbox (tmux TUI orchestrator): cmux is the native GUI for agent attention, not a muxer or a harness.

## Verdict

GPL native macOS terminal when you run many coding agents in parallel and keep missing the one that is waiting — server pieces are BUSL, and it is Mac-only.
