## The Hook

CloudNativePG is a Kubernetes operator that manages PostgreSQL primary/standby clusters end to end: deployment, failover, backups, recovery and upgrades, all declared as Kubernetes resources.

## What's Good

Apache-2.0 (cloudnative-pg/cloudnative-pg), release v1.30.1 (2026-09-23), a CNCF project. It integrates directly with the Kubernetes API instead of external HA tools like Patroni or Stolon, supports continuous backup to object storage with point-in-time recovery, rolling updates and declarative config that fits GitOps. ★~9.5k.

## The Catch

Running stateful databases on Kubernetes is only a good idea if your team already runs Kubernetes well; storage class and node failures become database problems. Backups still need testing. Commercial support comes from third parties listed in the project.

## Verdict

The best way to run Postgres on Kubernetes, if you must run Postgres on Kubernetes.
