## The Hook

Changesets is the human-written change file when a JS monorepo needs coordinated package bumps and a changelog PR, not a post-hoc git-cliff dump.

## What's Good

MIT. changesets/changesets. Developers add a markdown “changeset” per PR; CLI/bot bumps versions, updates changelogs, and can open a release PR. Fits npm/pnpm/yarn workspaces. Source github.com/changesets/changesets.

## The Catch

Vs git-cliff (changelog *from commit history*) and release-please: Changesets is *intent-first* (you write the change note), not history-parser-first. Empty or late changesets mean silent version drift. It versions packages — it does not replace your publish secrets or npm 2FA.

## Verdict

MIT monorepo versioning. Free forever; write the change, let the bot bump the graph.
