## The Hook

Bruno is the Postman escape hatch that stores collections as plain files you actually commit.

## What's Good

MIT. Offline-first desktop + CLI (`@usebruno/cli`). Collections as `.bru` / OpenCollection YAML — diffs in Git, no mandatory cloud account. REST/GraphQL and growing protocol coverage without a SaaS login wall.

## The Catch

Core client is free forever; Pro (~$6/user/mo billed annually) and Ultimate (~$11) unlock in-app Git UI, OpenAPI sync quotas, and org admin. Golden Edition is sunset for new buys. Not a mock/monitor platform like Postman Cloud. Hoppscotch is the web-first alternative.

## Verdict

MIT git-native API client. Free forever for local + CLI; pay only if the team wants the licensed desktop extras.
