## The Hook

book-to-skill turns a PDF, folder, or source cluster into an Agent Skills SKILL.md pack that coding agents can invoke instead of guessing from memory.

## What's Good

MIT (virgiliojr94/book-to-skill). Targets the open Agent Skills layout so Copilot CLI, Amp, Claude Code, Hermes, and OpenClaw-class hosts can share one skill tree under ~/.agents/skills (with host-specific install notes). Extraction ladder covers poppler/pypdf/docling and common ebook/office formats; update/fold-in modes keep a skill current as sources change. Trending hard as operators want grounded skills over prompt paste.

## The Catch

Vs Skillbox and Claude Code Templates: this generates content skills from documents, not a self-hosted skills registry/MCP plane and not a catalog of Claude Code agents/hooks/MCPs. Do not redistribute generated skills of copyrighted books — the README is explicit that third-party book skills should stay private; the tool does not grant you redistribution rights. Quality tracks your extractors (docling for technical PDFs) and the host's skill discovery rules.

## Verdict

MIT book→skill converter. Excellent for private grounded skills; keep copyrighted sources offline and private.
