## The Hook

Authorizer is an open-source authentication and authorization server you self-host on your own database, with OAuth2/OIDC, social login, MFA, magic links, roles and webhooks from one binary.

## What's Good

Apache-2.0 (authorizerdev/authorizer), release 2.4.2 (2026-10-14). Connects to 13+ databases, including Postgres, MySQL, SQLite, SQL Server, MongoDB, Cassandra, ScyllaDB, ArangoDB, DynamoDB and Couchbase, so user data stays in your stack. Includes email templates, RBAC and SDKs for frontends. ★~2.1k.

## The Catch

v2 moved all configuration to CLI arguments and ignores .env files, which breaks older deployment recipes — read the migration guide. Much smaller community than Keycloak, Zitadel or Authentik. You own security updates.

## Verdict

A lightweight Auth0 alternative when you want users in your own database.
