AG2 is the community AutoGen continuation — build multi-agent systems under open governance, not a Microsoft seat.

## What's Good

Apache-2.0 (ag2ai/ag2). Live brand for the AutoGen OSS line: pip install ag2, docs at docs.ag2.ai. v1 is protocol-driven (import ag2); Classic ConversableAgent/GroupChat lives in ag2-classic if you need the old API. Discord + open governance pitch.

## The Catch

Vs microsoft/autogen (maintenance; MS points new work to Microsoft Agent Framework) and LangGraph/CrewAI: AG2 is the community AutoGen fork, not Microsoft’s enterprise successor. AG2 v1 is not a drop-in from Classic — pin ag2-classic / import autogen if you need the old surface. One primary entry; do not twin with dead AutoGen marketing.

## Verdict

Apache-2.0 AutoGen community AgentOS. Use AG2 for OSS; Microsoft Agent Framework if you want the MS successor.
